Hairspray=Good, yes yes no.

Ok, so I saw Hairspray (the new version, based on the killer Broadway show...which I've never seen). It was awhile ago, but there's a reason I'm only writing about it now.

I loved the soundtrack, so I got it. Listening through, totally kickass. Yes yes.

SO...I had seen some YouTube clips of the Broadway show (yes Harvey Fierstein!) and so I downloaded the Soundtrack for that too. Also good (so far, I don't have all of it yet). Yes yes.

SOO...I remembered the movie and having seen it so long ago. I went and got the soundtrack for that. NO NO AWFUL! haha

It's ...well I rate my iTunes library now. All of those songs have fewer than three stars--mostly ones, a few twos. I love older songs, but they're, like...the worst of the sixties. No swing, no kick, not upbeat. What the hell happened? And this was in a movie with dancing? Blegh.

Oh well, James Marsden and Queen Latifah rocked in the movie. I wish it showed Harvey Fierstein rather than John Travolta. :( He wasn't bad, but in a few numbers he was AWFULLY light on his feet, bouncing around in the fat suit. It totally killed the illusion for me. And on the soundtrack it's fine, but in the theater, his voice was always so drowned-out by the other parts of the songs.

P.S. love the end-of-credits song with Nikki Blonsky, Marissa Jonet-Winokur, and Rikki Lake performing "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now". All three of them are (Rikki bounced back), so that's a little funny to me. And it's weird having the one trio song all sung by Tracy, because they sound so alike. You can tell who is who though.

Food/Drink: Nothing--super hungry
Music: "You Can't Stop the Beat" from the new Hairspray movie Soundtrack. So good.
Current Obsession: The Philip Treacy black button hats I saw at Saks yesterday but cannot find ANYWHERE on the internet. :(
